Hello there, I’m Spencer with POS Nation, and if you’re a retail location that deals with lottery transactions, then you know how important it is to track lottery sales and payouts.
Failure to track inaccuracies can lead to discrepancies in drawer counts and the overall profitability of your business.
With CAP Retail by POS Nation, our software comes equipped with over 50 pre-built reports and options to customize many more.
One such option is reporting, including lottery sales and payouts. So, I’m going to show you how that works.
We’re going to sell a lottery ticket and then we’re going to perform a payout as well. Let me open my hotkey button list here, and I’ve got a simple key here for lottery sale. I’ve made this age-verified. I’m going to skip that for now, but you could have specific lottery tickets here, or an open priced simple button like I’m doing here.
I’m going to do a two dollar lottery sale and I’m also going to add a payout. Let’s assume the same customer won 10 dollars and they want to get their payout along with the new purchase. So we’ll do a 10 dollar payout as well, and now they are owed eight dollars. At this point, we’ll tender it out, and we will do an exact change on cash. Complete the transaction, their change due is eight dollars.
Now we’ve done a 10 dollar payout and a two dollar lottery sale. Now on the reporting side, we want to see that separate from our regular sales transactions, so let me move over to our reporting screen here.
Gonna run a quick sales summary for the day. As you can see, we’ve got our sales information, all of our taxed sales, non-taxed sales, cost of goods sold, and profit. All of that looks great, and then you see right here we have our lottery sales. So two dollars in lottery sales today and 10 dollars in payouts, and it gives us our net lottery sales of eight dollars and 20 cents because 20 cents goes to the store, because I set that 10 percent of lottery sales goes back to the store.
So this is an example of how the lottery sales are broken out in your daily reports, monthly, and annual reports as well, and tracked separately in our system. So hopefully this gives you the information you need to make sure this is going to be the right solution for you.
