We recently had the opportunity of sitting down with Moe and Mike to hear more about their journey into the point of sale world. They started out old school. They ran their business with a cash register, but quickly became aware of their need for something more robust. A POS system was exactly what they needed. So Moe set out to do some research. He was already sold on the many functions a POS system could perform. Sales reporting, inventory tracking, employee tracking, error reduction, theft mitigation, were just some of the functionalities he was looking for. Customer retention is very important to every business. We recently had the privilege of stopping by to hang out with the owners, Frank Indelli and Lou Kopinski. We enjoyed hearing a little more about their story and why they chose to purchase their POS system here at POS Nation. Investing in a POS system for your business is a serious commitment. For many people the task can be quite daunting. What kind of system should I get? Who should I make the purchase from? Will their technical support team be able to help me get set up properly so that I have a seamless transition? Do they even have a technical support department? Is the price reasonable? Those are only a small fraction of the questions that most people have when making a POS system purchase. Frank could relate to that. In fact, he did research for over six months before he made a decision. His research was quite extensive. Upon interviewing James and Jon it became quickly apparent to us that their newly established business was going to be a great success. Their commitment to excellence is consistent throughout everything they do. From their friendly and professional staff to the top quality, fresh food items they offer, one cannot help but be impressed. Even their menus make a strong impression. They are digital, which is rare in Bakersfield. In fact, RiverWalk is the only café in the entire region that utilizes this type of technology to display their menu. James loves technology, which is why he looked to a POS system to help operate his business. Since POS Nation was successful in providing a POS system to Barino’s Market, it was natural for them to look to us again for their restaurant needs. And we didn’t disappoint. They purchased a perfect system for their newly established restaurant. It provided all of the features they were already accustomed to at their market plus some additional functionalities that are geared specifically toward the restaurant industry. The Aldelo For Restaurants software was perfect for what they needed. When talking to Vito he quickly and enthusiastically explained how they were taking advantage of the inventory feature and recipe tracking. They are able to calculate to the penny the cost of every dish they offer. This helps them manage their overall costs, identify profitable markup percentages and also informs them when they are low on inventory.
When talking with one of their servers, he enthusiastically described how easy it was for him to learn the system. With years of experience already under his belt in the restaurant industry, he surprisingly never worked in an environment that embraced POS technology. His familiarity was only that of a traditional cash register. He explained to us that when he first started working for Vibano’s, he was a bit reluctant and even intimidated by the POS system, but after a very short time using it he learned to appreciate its capabilities. Located right outside of Charlotte, NC (Fort Mill, SC to be exact), Aroma is a quality café to say the least. It’s family operated by some truly amazing people. The Lowney family is very special. Because of that, the Aroma Coffee House & Cafe case study was very unique when compared to the others. Chris Allen, POS Nation's Chief Operating Officer, has had a longstanding relationship with the owners, Charles and Mirtha Lowney, and their family. As was the case for Aroma, there are countless businesses that are doing well, but just don't have the capital needed to make certain upgrades to the way they operate.
In order to be successful in business it's important to stay focused on the bottom line. While that is very true and an essential principle in becoming profitable, we also recognize that there are other core responsibilities and opportunities that present themselves every day. There are certain things a cash register can do, but there are more limitations than anything. One such example is theft mitigation. Aroma experienced this first hand. Being stolen from is a very frustrating and painful experience. Using a cash register to run your payment transactions leaves you vulnerable in too many ways to consider it a viable solution. A POS system eradicates theft by introducing various features that hold the user accountable to working honestly.
Another challenge for Aroma was the amount of time it took to ring up the order, receive payment and deliver the product. Many of their customers are on their way to work when stopping in. They want to get a latte and a bite to eat, but they want it fast so they can get on with their day. A POS system assists in this endeavor by speeding up the transaction process significantly. Orders are completed with a simple touch of the monitor and swipe of a card.
Definitely worthy of mention is the digital signage they received with their system. Suggestive sales are a worthwhile strategy for Aroma. Digital signs now allow them the ability to promote specific food, drinks and specials without even saying a word.

With thousands of customers, it became very important for Double D’s to manage their business operations in an efficient manner. That’s where we came into the picture. Age verification is a necessity for them. It’s significantly important for them to make sure their customers meet the legal age requirement for purchasing tobacco products. Sure, you can do it manually by checking their driver’s license, but why risk having your employees make a mistake when calculating your customer’s age? That can and does happen, often. This interface enforces age verification by forcing cashiers to scan or swipe the customer’s driver’s license upon ringing up tobacco or liquor products. The POS system will instantly check the age and either approve or decline the sales transaction depending on the results. This type of risk mitigation gives peace of mind, knowing full well that you have a solution that is a safe guard as you comply with the legal requirements of your state.
Although age verification was a huge value to Double D’s, they recognized our POS system had much more to offer, such as customer loyalty programs and inventory tracking which has measures to mitigate theft and product shrinkage.
